Grant’s Lick Elementary custodian receives
2008 Fred Award

Fred Strange is the recipient of the 2008 Fred Award. Selected by a statewide judging panel, Strange was chosen to receive the award for his trademark spirit of service to the students and staff in the Grant’s Lick Elementary school community.
While Strange is the school’s custodian, he is also known as a teacher, a mentor, a designer, a coach and a counselor. He gives hundreds of hours annually to work with students by coaching the Robotics Team and designing staging and lighting for the school’s annual opera. According to Principal Amy Razor, “Mr. Strange is a key component to our students’ success.”
Strange was recognized before an audience of 700 school administrators during the closing session of KASA’s 39th annual conference in July. As the 2008 Fred award winner, Strange received a distinctive plaque commemorating the honor and a $500 gift which he plans to donate to the Robotics Team.
