ALL DAY WORKSHOP

1. Developing the Artisan Teacher

Mike Rutherford will present the essential ideas from the domains of The Artisan Teacher to help school leaders recognize, support and develop excellent teachers.

The most successful, gap-closing, achievement-producing teachers view teaching as a craft.  They are artisan teachers  who are  skilled in the craft of teaching. They are a unique combination of artist, scientist, and skilled laborer.  Like all craftsmen, excellent teachers need administrative support to hone their skills to become truly artisan practitioners.  Rutherford will share skills and strategies administrators can use to make this happen. 3. Engaging the Digital Learner

Today’s students are bombarded with new digital technologies that are changing the way they process information and learn. Are schools equipped to handle this new type of learner?

According to Kelly, McCain, and Jukes in Teaching the Digital Generation, schools must continue to focus on keeping schools relevant to the society in which students function by exploring the digital world and discovering new electronic tools that will enhance the students’ learning experiences.

This interactive session will provide administrators with tools and strategies to engage the digital learner, resulting in higher order skills and greater student engagements.  Many tools will be free.
