The Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC) broke ground on its new $2.8 million office and training facility August 6, 2008. The state-of-the-art technology and training center will serve teachers and administrators from within GRREC’s 33 south central Kentucky school districts. In all, the cooperative serves more than 110,000 students and their 15,000 teachers, administrators and other support personnel.
The facility is the culmination of more than 40 years of service to the area. Currently housed in Tate Page Hall at Western Kentucky University, GRREC has outgrown its existing office facilities as it expanded from six to 35 employees in the past 10 years. Executive Director Liz Storey has worked with the Board of Directors for the past several years to develop solutions to the space issues; the new facility will not only solve that challenge but provide area educators with a center for training and professional development that is currently not available in the region.
The 14,000-square-foot building is slated for completion by May 2009 and is located in the Kentucky TriModal Transpark in Bowling Green. “It will serve as a central point in the region for excellent training, excellent networking opportunities, idea exchange, research and development of a better classroom,” Mrs. Storey said.
